What does MOIC mean with respect to private fund returns?

Multiple on Invested Capital (MOIC) is used to holistically evaluate the performance of an investment portfolio. It is a multiple that shows how much an investment has increased in value relative to the original capital invested. MOIC considers the total dollar amount of capital invested by the fund, including management fees.
